Setcoat on metal door

Can setcoat be used on a metal door? It is primed, interior application. Will be applying S&S over paint. Also, since it is a door going into the garage that will be getting a lot of use, what topcoat would you recommend? Can you put an oil-based varnish over S&S? I'm asking this because I am using either walnut or VDB S&S and often have trouble with hazing or clouding in our climate, especially since we are in the rainy season down here. Thanks in advance

Yes, I have used setcoat on the intorior of a a metal door, prior to woodgraining it. To finish it off, I applied a coat of set coat and then 2 coats of C5000 as a topcoat. That was 7 years ago and it still looks great!

I, too, have used setcoat on metal doors. In particular, I use Sherwin Williams Adhesion primer first (great stuff) and then setcoat. I then wood grained using faux creme glazes. Then toned with 3 layers of tinted zars clear varnish. Kills 2 birds with one stone: tone + topcoat. Each layer of the clear had a slightly different tint (tinted with faux cream colors). Looks great and the clients are thrilled!
